The Russian Social Democratic Labor Party (RSDRP) was a socialist political party that existed in the Russian Empire from 1 March 1898 to 1903. The party was led by socialist theorists such as Vladimir Lenin and Julius Martov, revolutionaries who were responsible for leading social change in Russia through strikes and protests. Modeled after social democratic parties in Europe, the RSDRP struggled with organizing its members, leading to a divide between Lenin's Bolsheviks and Martov's Mensheviks, with the former being the extreme majority and the latter being the moderate minority. The RSDRP split into the communist Bolsheviks and socialist Mensheviks after the 1903 party congress, and the Menshevik faction would later dissolve as the Bolsheviks rose to power.
