The Russian Far East is one of the eight federal districts of Russia, located in the eastermost parts of the country (between the Transbaikal region, Kamchatka, and Primorsky Krai. The region has a land border with China's Manchuria region to the south, while it shares a maritime border with Japan and the US state of Alaska. In 2010, the Far East had a population of 6,293,129 people, and the population density was .37 people per square mile, making it one of the most sparsely-populated regions of the world.
