Ruslana Lyzhychko

Ruslana Lyzhychko (24 May 1973-) was a People's Deputy of Ukraine from 25 May 2006 to 23 November 2007 as a member of Our Ukraine. Ruslana was also a famous female solo artist, having won the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Wild Dances".

Biography[]

Ruslana Lyzhychko was born in Lviv, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union in 1973, and she became a conductor in 1995. She became a musician during the late 1990s, and she won the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Wild Dances". The album Dyki tantsi went platinum, making her the first artist from a former Soviet country to have this honor. In 2004, she supported Viktor Yushchenko during the disputed presidential election, and she supported the Orange Revolution; she went on to serve as an Our Ukraine MP from 2006 to 2007. She endorsed Yulia Tymoshenko in 2010, and she was a leading figure of the Euromaidan protests of 2013-2014; she was awarded the International Women of Courage Award by the US government and was nominated to receive the title Hero of Ukraine.
