Ruprecht der Rote (1237-1272) was a komtur of the Teutonic Order.
Biography[]
Born to the Der Rote family of the Holy Roman Empire, he was a relative of the Imperial German nobleman Charles der Rote. He became an initiated member of the Teutonic Order, serving as a komtur (general) during the war with Novgorod after 1264. Assassin Zavid of Novgorod was sent by the Council of Nobles to take care of him in 1272, as he was a key Teutonic leader. Ruprecht was assassinated by a poisonous snake that Zavid put in his bed.
