The Rugii were a Germanic tribe which migrated from Norway to Pomerania around 100 AD. They lived next to the Goths along the Baltic Sea, and many of them left during the barbarian migration period. Some Rugii remained behind and later became Slavicized, and some of them created the kingdom of Rugiland in Austria. By 482 AD, the Rugii converted to Arianism, a form of Christianity, and they became a vassal of the Ostrogoths and lived alongside them in Italy, although they never intermarried.
