
Ruffin Golson Pleasant (2 June 1871-12 September 1937) was the Democratic Governor of Louisiana from 9 May 1916 to 11 May 1920, succeeding Luther E. Hall and preceding John M. Parker.
Biography[]
Ruffin Golson Pleasant was born in Shiloh, Louisiana in 1871, and he was educated in Ruston before becoming a lawyer in 1899. He served in the US Army during the Spanish-American War, after which he established a law practice in Shreveport. He served as city attorney of Shreveport, Attorney General of Louisiana from 1912 to 1916, and Governor of Louisiana from 1916 to 1920; he encouraged volunteers and supplies for the American war effort during World War I. He briefly sided with Huey Long's faction of the Democratic Party before breaking with him and becoming a bitter opponent. He died in Shreveport in 1937.
