Rue Saint-Nicaise

The Rue Saint-Nicaise was a street in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, France. It was created in the 16th century along the medieval wall constructed by King Charles V of France, and it started at hte Rue des Orties-du-Louvre and ran to the Rue Saint-Honore, almost opposite the Rue de Richelieu. The street was named for the chapel of Saint-Nicaise. On 24 September 1800, the street was the site of the Plot of the Rue Saint-Nicaise, in which 22 people were killed, many injured, and 46 houses destroyed in a bombing assassination attempt on Consul Napoleon Bonaparte by Royalist conspirators. The street was destroyed in 1853 during the extension of the Rue de Rivoli.
