Ruben Gallego

Ruben Gallego (20 November 1979-) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-AZ 7) from 3 January 2015 to 3 January 2025 (succeeding Ed Pastor) and a US Senator from 3 January 2025 (succeeding Kyrsten Sinema and preceding Yassamin Ansari).

Biography[]

Ruben Gallego was born in Chicago, Illinois on 20 November 1979 to a family of Mexican and Colombian immigrants, and he was raised by a single mother. He graduated from Harvard University and served in the US Marine Corps from 2000 to 2006 during hte Iraq War; he was motivated to join politics in order to help his fellow veterans, having lost his own best friend in combat. From 2011 to 2014, he served in the State House of Representatives, and he was then elected to the US House of Representatives in 2014. Gallego was a strong supported of marijuana legalization, and he opposed gun rights. He stood down in 2024 to run for US Senate, narrowly defeating the Republican Kari Lake.
