Royal Wootton Bassett is a small market town in Wiltshire, England. It was founded by the Anglo-Saxons in 681 AD as Wodeton ("settlement in the wood"), and it was sacked by marauding Danes in 1015. From 1447 to 1832, it was a rotten borough of Parliament which produced two MPs, and it was abolished by the Great Reform Act in 1832. During the early 21st century, it was the site of many military funeral repatriations, and Queen Elizabeth II granted Wootton Bassett royal patronage in 2011, leading to it having "Royal" added to its name. In 2011, Royal Wootton Bassett had a population of 11,385 people.
