The Royal Irish Rangers was a regular infantry regiment of the British Army that existed from 1968 to 1992, when it was merged into the Royal Irish Regiment alongside the Ulster Defense Regiment. The Rangers were formed at the start of The Troubles, although its lineage reached back to the Battle of Barrosa during the Peninsular War, the Battle of Waterloo during the Napoleonic Wars, the Battle of the Somme during World War I, and the Korean War. The rangers were also deployed overseas during the 1970s and 1980s, and they were briefly sent to Northern Ireland in September 1988. In 1992, the Rangers and the UDR merged to form the Royal Irish Regiment.
