The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers was an Irish line infantry regiment of the British Army which was active from 1881 to 1968. It was raised in County Londonderry, County Donegal, County Tyrone, and County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, and it was headquartered at the St. Lucia Barracks in Omagh. In October 1899, the regiment was deployed to Durban, South Africa at the start of the Second Boer War, and it was defeated at the Battle of Colenso before taking part in the relief of the Siege of Ladysmith. During World War I, detachments from the regiment fought on the Western Front, at the Battle of Gallipoli, and in the Easter Rising, and it was stationed in British India when World War II broke out. One of its battalions fought in Burma for the entirety of the war, while another fought in the 1940 Battle of France and in the Italian campaign. In 1951, the regiment returned to Northern Ireland, and it disbanded on 30 June 1968, merging into the Royal Irish Rangers.
