
Roy Rogers (5 November 1911-6 July 1998), born Leonard Franklin Slye, was an American singer, actor, and television host. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he grew up in rural Ohio and California, and he became a Hollywood actor in 1935 and appeared in several Western films as a "singing cowboy". He starred in The Roy Rogers Show from 1951 to 1957, and he later lent his name to the Roy Rogers Restaurants. He died in Apple Valley, California in 1998 at the age of 86.
Rogers was a Republican, supporting Barry Goldwater in the 1964 presidential election.
