Roswell Keyes Colcord (25 April 1839-30 October 1939) was the Republican Governor of Nevada from 5 January 1891 to 7 January 1895, succeeding Frank Bell and preceding John Edward Jones.
Biography[]
Roswell Keyes Colcord was born in Searsport, Maine in 1839, and he moved to California in 1856, to Aurora, Nevada in 1860, and to Virginia City in 1863 and became a successful mining engineer and attorney. Colcord served as Governor from 1891 to 1895, and he supported women's suffrage and established boards for health and equalization. He went on to superintend the US Mint at Carson City from 1898 to 1911, and he died in Carson City in 1939 at the age of 100.
