Daniel Francis Hannigan (born 1897) also know as Rooster was an Irish-American criminal from New York.
Biography[]
Rooster Hannigan was born in 1897 in New York City, younger brother of Agatha Hannigan. In 1933, they met Agatha in her office after being a few months in jail, but they let him out early (good behaviour) and while Miss Hannigan was distracted, he stole money from her purse.
Rooster and his girlfriend, Lily St. Regis; they plot to pose as Annie Bennett's parents to gain the reward that Oliver Warbucks offered to find them. The trio searched the orphans' belongings and Hannigan revealed that Annie's real parents were killed in a fire; she possessed the other half of Annie's locket. Annie's friends overhear the conversation and tried sneaking out, but were discovered and locked away. Rooster and Lily succeed with the ruse, and Annie's departure from Warbucks was somber. She was kidnapped minutes after they leave the mansion, but her friends ultimately reached Warbucks and told him the truth; shocked and stunned, he informed the police, beginning a city-wide search.
Annie convinced the felons to pull over, only to escape and destroy Warbucks' check. An enraged Rooster chased Annie up a raised drawbridge in an effort to kill her; when Hannigan realized his intentions, she desperately tried to stop him, but Rooster easily knocked her out and continued climbing. Punjab rescued Annie from Rooster and reunited her with Warbucks and Grace. Rooster and Lily were arrested and Annie was officially adopted by Warbucks.
