Roman Borisovich Berdnikov (31 August 1974 - ) is a Russian lieutenant-general who has commanded the Western Military District since 28 September 2022, succeeding Alexander Zhuravlyov.
Biography[]
Roman Borisovich Berdnikov was born in Kamen-na-Obi, Altai Krai, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union in 1974, and he joined the Russian Army in 1995.
He became commander of the 29th Combined Arms Army in 2019 and became a lieutenant-general in December 2020, and he commanded the Russian forces in Syria from October 2021 to 2022; in September 2022, he was given command of the Western Military District amid the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, replacing Alexander Zhuravlyov.
