Roland Hill Hartley (26 June 1864-21 September 1952) was the Republican Governor of Washington from 14 January 1925 to 11 January 1933, succeeding Louis F. Hart and preceding Clarence D. Martin.

Biography[]

Roland Hill Hartley was born in Shogomoc, New Brunswick, Canada in 1864, and he moved to Brainerd, Minnesota in 1878 and worked in the logging industry before becoming a bookkeeper in Minneapolis. He married the daughter of future governor David Marston Clough, and he served in the US Army during the Spanish-American War and acquired the honorific title of colonel. He moved to Everett, Washington in 1900 to establish a new sawmill, and he served as Mayor of Everett from 1910 to 1912, in the state house from 1915 to 1917, and as Governor from 1925 to 1933. He died in Seattle in 1952.
