Rogaland is a county in western Norway, bordering Vestland to the north, Vestfold and Telemark to the east, and Agder to the east and southeast; Stavanger is its capital. It was known to the ancient Norse as Rygjafylki, named for the Germanic Rugii tribe. Rogaland was a petty kingdom before Harald Fairhair united Norway at the Battle of Hafrsfjord in 872. By 2019, Rogaland was the center of the Norwegian petroleum industry, and it had 478,910 residents.
