The Rockies, also called the Rocky Mountains, are a major mountain range in North America, stretching 3,000 miles from Canada to the United States. Much of the mountains consist of public parks and forest lands, and the regions to the west of the Rockies are typically considered to be the American West; the regions in the center are in the Great Plains and Midwest regions, and the lands to the south are counted as parts of the American Southwest.
