
Robert Taylor Jones (8 February 1884-11 June 1958) was the Democratic Governor of Arizona from 2 January 1939 to 6 January 1941, succeeding Rawghlie Clement Stanford and preceding Sidney Preston Osborn.
Biography[]
Robert Taylor Jones was born in Rutledge, Tennessee in 1884, and he worked as a civil engineer and participated in the building of the Panama Canal for one year. On his return to the United States, he settled in Los Angeles, California and built a railroad from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City. In 1909, he came to Arizona, settling in Superior, Pinal County after marrying. He founded a drug store company before entering politics with the Democratic Party and serving in the State Senate from 1937 to 1938 and as Governor from 1939 to 1941. He died in 1958.
