Robert Stockton Green

Robert Stockton Green (25 March 1831-7 May 1895) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NJ 3) from 4 March 1885 to 17 January 1887 (interrupting John Kean's terms) and Governor of New Jersey from 18 January 1887 to 21 January 1890 (interrupting Leon Abbett's terms).

Biography[]

Robert Stockton Green was born in Princeton, New Jersey in 1831, the son of James S. Green. He became a lawyer in Elizabeth in 1853, and he served on the city council from 1863 to 1873, as a judge from 1868 to 1873, in the US House of Representatives from 1885 to 1887, and as Governor from 1887 to 1890. He was more conservative than 87% of Democrats during his time in the US Congress. Green died in 1895.
