Robert Sink (3 April 1905-13 December 1965) was a Lieutenant-General of the United States who was the commander of the US 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the US 101st Airborne Division.
Biography[]
Robert Sink was born on 3 April 1905 in Lexington, North Carolina. He graduated from West Point in 1927, and he served with the US Army before joining the US 101st Airborne Division. He was one out of the 4% of the army's paratroopers called a "master parachutist", and he celebrated his birthday every year with a parachute jump. During World War II, he was given command of the US 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment and led them on D-Day at the Battle of Carentan and during Operation Market Garden. In 1945, he became the assistant commander of the US 101st Airborne Division, and he had several commands back home in the United States after the war. He died in 1965 in Fort Bragg in his home state of North Carolina at the age of 60.
