
Robert Pigot (20 September 1720 – 1 August 1796) was a British Army lieutenant-general who served in the American Revolutionary War.
Biography[]
Robert Pigot was born in London, England in 1720, the brother of George Pigot and Hugh Pigot; he came from a family of Huguenot descent. He joined the British Army, becoming a major in the 10th Regiment of Foot in 1758, colonel of the 38th Regiment of Foot from 1769 to 1775, MP for Wallingford from 1768 to 1772, colonel of the 55th (Westmorland) Regiment of Foot during the Battle of Bunker Hill, a major-general in 1777 (defending Rhode Island from Patriot attack), and a lieutenant-general in 1782. He died in Stafford in 1796.
