Robert Mulcahy was an Irish Catholic priest who lived in Dublin, Ireland during the 1910s. He was the uncle of Elizabeth Butler, and he attended her wedding at Trinity Chapel on 24 April 1916. However, the wedding was called off last-minute due to the outbreak of the Easter Rising. Archbishop William Joseph Walsh sent Mulcahy to negotiate with the rebels, hoping to talk them out of continuing their uprising, but Patrick Pearse instead asked Mulcahy to bless his fighters with praying the rosary. During the prayer, Mulcahy experienced a change of heart, coming to support the rebels. When he returned to the Archbishop and asked him to be open to supporting the rebels, the Archbishop forbade Mulcahy from further contact with the rebels and told him to prioritize ensuring the safety of all movable church property.
