
Robert Winthrop Kean (28 September 1893-21 September 1980) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-NJ 12) from 3 January 1939 to 3 January 1959, succeeding Frank W. Towey, Jr. and preceding George M. Wallhauser.
Biography[]
Robert Winthrop Kean was born in Elberon, New Jersey in 1893, the son of US Senator Hamilton Fish Kean, the uncle of Senator John Kean, the father of Governor Thomas Kean, and the grandfather of Thomas Kean, Jr.; his family was a powerful Republican political dynasty in the state. Robert Kean was involved in his father's political campaigns, and he worked as an investment banker before serving in the US House of Representatives from 1939 to 1959. From 1959 to 1962, he served as Chairman of the Essex County GOP, and he died in 1980.
