Robert Floyd Kennon (21 August 1902-11 January 1988) was the Democratic Governor of Louisiana from 13 May 1952 to 8 May 1956, interrupting Earl Long's terms.

Biography[]

Robert Floyd Kennon was born in Minden, Louisiana in 1902, and he became mayor in 1925, the same year as his graduation from law school. He served as mayor until 1928, as Bossier Parish district attorney from 1930 to 1941, as an Associate Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court from 1945 to 1946, as a Judge of the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeal from 1945 to 1952, and as Governor from 1952 to 1956. He reestablished the state civil service in opposition to his predecessor, Governor Earl Long, and he limited the powers of the governor's office and established home rule for New Orleans. He died in 1988.
