Robert Davis Carey (12 August 1878 – 17 January 1937) was the Republican Governor of Wyoming from 6 January 1919 to 1 January 1923 (succeeding Frank L. Houx and preceding William B. Ross) and a US Senator from 1 December 1930 to 3 January 1937 (succeeding Patrick J. Sullivan and preceding Henry H. Schwartz).
Biography[]
Robert Davis Carey was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory in 1878, the son of Joseph M. Carey. He worked as a banker and served on the Progressive National Committee from 1912 to 1916 and as chairman of the state highway commission from 1917 to 1918 before serving as President of the Wyoming Stock Growers' Association from 1917 to 1921. He went on to serve as Wyoming's first native-born governor from 1919 to 1923, and he died in 1937, shortly after leaving office.
