Robert Carlos De Large (15 March 1852-14 February 1874) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-SC 2) from 4 March 1871 to 24 January 1873, succeeding Christopher C. Bowen and preceding Alonzo J. Ransier.

Biography[]

Robert Carlos De Large was born in Aiken, South Carolina in 1852, the son of a Sephardic Jewish father and a free mulatto Haitian woman who owned slaves in Charleston. He was employed by the Confederate States Navy during the American Civil War, in the State House from 1868 to 1870, State Land Commissioner in 1870, and in the US House of Representatives from 1871 to 1873, when his seat was vacated due to the controversial nature of his election. He died of tuberculosis a year later.
