Robert Adam (3 July 1728 – 3 March 1792) was a Scottish architect and the MP for Kinross-shire from 1768 to 1774.
Biography[]
Robert Adam was born in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland on 3 July 1728, one of the five architect sons of a prominent Scottish architect. They were chiefly employed in completing or redesigning country houses such as Syon Park, Kedleston, and Harewood; Robert Adam's other designs included the university and Charlotte Square in Edinburgh and Fitzroy Square in London. The brothers were almost bankrupted in their attempt to build the Adelphi development south of The Strand (which would combine Thames-side houses, warehouses, and wharves), but they disposed of it by lottery in 1774. Adam also served as MP for Kinross-shire from 1768 to 1774, and he died in 1792.
