
Rif Dimashq Governorate is one of the fourteen governorates of Syria, situated in the southwestern part of the country. It borders Quneitra Governorate, Daraa Governorate, as-Suwayda Governorate, Homs Governorate, the country of Lebanon to the west, and Jordan to the southeast. The governorate's capital is Damascus, which is itself a governorate of Syria. In 2011, the region had a population of 2,836,000 people.
