Rico Granados (1907-1959) was a Mexican mob boss who was the Don of the Granados crime family of Miami.
Biography[]
Rico Granados was born in Mexico, and he worked as a real estate developer in the United States for years. Based in Miami, Florida, Granados decided to hire thugs into his deals to protect him from extortionists, and he soon became a criminal in his own right, becoming Don of the Granados crime family. Granados' main business was construction, although he was also involved with prostitution, gun running, and pornography, among other industries. During the 1950s, Granados attempted to form alliances with Trapani crime family boss Aldo Trapani and Mangano crime family don Samuele Mangano, both of whom were powerful bosses. He also developed political connections, having the Mayor of Miami, the police chief, and local union bosses in his pockets. In 1958, Hyman Roth promised him the Hotel Nacional during his division of his Havana, Cuba casino operations among his associates, but the collapse of Fulgencio Batista's regime in the Cuban Revolution of 1959 led to Granados becoming rivals with Roth back in Miami. Roth later called in Trapani's successor Dominic Corleone to help with defeating Granados, and Corleone eliminated Granados' made men and businesses. After doing so, Corleone and his crew assaulted Granados' compound, eliminating the last of Granados' family. Trapani confronted Granados, wounded him with gunshots, and savagely beat him in the face until Granados died.
