Richard Clarkson (born 1870) was a British physician who lived in Downton, Yorkshire during the early 20th century. A decorated veteran of the Second Boer War, he became close with the family of Robert Crawley, 7th Earl of Grantham, knowing all three of his daughters since they were girls. He also became close to Isobel Crawley after she moved to Downton in September 1912 and volunteered as a nurse, although she later rejected his marriage proposal. During World War I, he was drafted back into the British Army as a major, and he was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal for his service.
