Ricardo Santerna

Ricardo Santerna was a Mexican revolutionary general during the Mexican Revolution.

Biography[]

Ricardo Santerna was born in Mexico, and he became a general in Pancho Villa's Division del Norte during the Mexican Revolution. In 1913, he led the Mesa Verde train ambush, which resulted in the death of the tyrannical governor of Mesa Verde, Don Jaime. Santerna then met Juan Miranda, whom he informed that Villa had heard of his exploits and wished to meet him. He then explained to the revolutionary leaders John H. Mallory and Romulo Villega that Villa's army was being delayed for a day in its approach to Mesa Verde, and that Gunther Ruiz and a 1,000-strong Mexican Army force was approaching Mesa Verde by train. Santerna and Mallory arranged for an ambush which led to the decisive Battle of Mesa Verde, during which Villega and Ruiz were killed, but the Army was decisively defeated.
