Rhineland-Palatinate is a state of Germany that is located along the Rhine River on the French border. Mainz is the state capital, while Koblenz, Neuwied, Bitburg, Trier, Idar-Oberstein, Kaiserslautern, Zweibrucken, Pirmasens, Worms, and Bingen are other noteworthy cities in the state. The state was formed by the French military government in the aftermath of World War II, and it built its own cultural identity built on its many castles, winegrowing, and beautiful landscapes. In 2015, the state had a population of 4,052,803 people.
