Rhexenor the Hand

Rhexenor the Hand (died 424 BC) was an Athenian general who served in the Peloponnesian War. He served as the demagogue Cleon's right-hand man in Athens, and he was assassinated by the Spartan mercenary Kassandra in 424 BC.

Biography[]

From a sudden swing in a vote to go to war with a stubborn politician found dead in the streets, the scars the Cult left on democracy became unmistakable and feared by all. Those were the scars. Rhexenor was the blade. No matter how resilient Atheninas were, his subtle hand would always usher their votes back to war, and to serve Kosmos' will.

In 424 BC, Cleon ordered Rhexenor to prevent the playwright Aristophanes from putting on his play "The Knights", which excoriated Cleon and threatened to damage his popularity. Rhexenor threatened the actor Thespis and his muse Aikaterine with injury if they took part in the performance, leading to the Spartan mercenary Kassandra infiltrating the Weapon Storage depot and assassinating Rhexenor. She brought back Rhexenor's sword to Aikaterine, who requested that Kassandra bring her Rhexenor's "little sword" as proof of his death; however, Aikaterine meant Rhexenor's genitals, as she and her fellow prostitutes derided Rhexenor for his poor sexual performance.
