The Revolutionary United Front (RUF) was a nationalist rebel group in Sierra Leone that existed from 1991 to 2003. Founded by Foday Sankoh, the RUF was inspired by the Liberian Civil War, and it was supported by Charles Taylor's forces in Liberia during the Sierra Leonian Civil War. In 2009, its last leaders Issa Sesay, Morris Kallon, and Augustine Gbao were convicted of war crimes, as the group was responsible for mass rapes and amputations.
