The Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement-200 (MBR-200) was a political and social movement which was founded in 1982 by Hugo Chavez. The MBR-200 was founded by military officers who repeated Simon Bolivar's 1805 oath, "I swear before you, and I swear before the God of my fathers, that I will not allow my arm to relax, nor my soul to rest, until I have broken the chains that oppress us..." In 1983, the suffix "200" was added to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Bolivar's birth, and it became a subversive revolutionary organization. In 1992, it carried out a coup attempt against President Carlos Andres Perez, but it failed in its planned revolution. In 1997, the movement evolved into the Fifth Republic Movement, a political party which boosted Chavez to power in 1998 and created the Fifth Republic in 1999.
