Revisionist Zionism is a faction within the Zionist movement and the founding ideology of the non-religious political right wing in Israel. The ideology was originally developed by Ze'ev Jabotinsky, who supported the revision of the "practical Zionism" of David Ben-Gurion and Chaim Weizmann, which focused on individuals' settlement of the Land of Israel, to state Zionism's goal of establishing a "Jewish state". Revisionist Zionism therefore did not support the mere settlement of Mandatory Palestine, instead supporting the creation of an independent Jewish state. Revisionism led to the founding of the conservative and secular Likud party in 1973.
