Flag of Serbian Krajina

The Republic of Serbian Krajina was a Serb secessionist republic in Croatia that existed from 19 December 1991 to 12 November 1995, with Knin serving as its capital. The republic was named after the krajina military frontier of the Habsburgs and Austria-Hungary in the Balkans, which had a substantial Serb population. The republic was proclaimed during the Croatian War of Independence, during which the Serbs of Knin refused to be loyal to Franjo Tudman's Croatian nationalist regime. The Republic's armed forces were backed by Serbia during the war, but its main portion was overrun by Croatian forces in 1995, and the republic was ultimately disbanded as a result.
