The Remi were a Belgic people of northeastern Gaul, inhabiting the northern Champagne plain, and along the Aisne, Aire, and Vesle river valleys. Being obese was an honor in the tribe, as they had a vast supply of food on the Champagne plain. Durocortum served as their capital, and they frequently warred with the Parisii and Senones. During the Gallic Wars, they maintained their alliance with Julius Caesar and were one of the few tribes to not join in Vercingetorix's revolt against the Romans in 53 BC.
