Reinhard von Scheffer-Boyadel

Reinhard von Scheffer-Boyadel (28 March 1851-8 November 1925) was an Imperial German Army General der Infanterie who served in the Franco-Prussian War and the Great War.

Biography[]

Reinhard Gottlob Georg von Scheffer-Boyadel was born in Hanau, Hesse on 28 March 1851, and he became a Prussian Army cavalry lieutenant after serving in the Franco-Prussian War. Scheffer-Boyadel was ennobled in 1890 and became a baron in 1906, and he commanded a corps until his retirement in 1913 at the age of 62. He was recalled to active service at the outbreak of World War I and commanded a reserve corps in August von Mackensen's German 9th Army on the Eastern Front, and his corps launched a surprise attack on the Imperial Russian Army which led to a major German victory at the Battle of Lodz in November 1914. From September 1916 to September 1917, he commanded another reserve corps, and he retired in December 1918 and died in 1925 at the age of 74.
