Reince Priebus

Reince Priebus (18 March 1972-) was Chairman of the Republican National Committee from 20 January 2011, succeeding Michael Steele. Priebus was a senior leader of the US Republican Party during the 2010s, and he became the designated White House Chief-of-Staff to President-elect Donald Trump on 13 November 2016.

Biography[]

Reince Priebus was born on 18 March 1972 in Dover, New Jersey, and he majored in English and political science at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Priebus ran for the Wisconsin State Senate in 2004 but lost to Senator Robert Wirch, but in 2007 he was elected as Chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party. He was involved in the Tea Party, and on 20 January 2011 he was elected Chairman of the Republican National Committee with Governor Scott Walker's endorsement. In 2016, Priebus made a speech before a televised US Republican Party debate where he said that the Republican Party would unite behind whatever nominee was chosen, and that the divisions in the party would be erased so that they could fight against Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders and the US Democratic Party. Priebus decided to support Donald Trump as the Republican nominee for president, and Trump named him as his White House Chief-of-Staff on 13 November 2016, while retaining Stephen Bannon as an adviser.
