The Reichsarmee was the army of the Holy Roman Empire from 1422 to 1806, created by the Imperial Diet in response to the uprising of the Hussites in Bohemia. The Reichsarmee once a minimum strength of 20,000 infantry and 4,000 cavalry at all times, as decreed at the Diet of Worms in 1521, but this was later increased to 28,000 infantry, 10,000 cavalry, and 2,000 dragoons in 1681. Austria would provide the most troops of any Holy Roman possession (with 8,029 troops in 1681), with Burgundy, Westphalia, Upper Saxony, Lower Saxony, and Swabia each providing 4,029 troops. Bavaria gave the least troops, supplying a mere 2,294 troops. The Reichsarmee was disbanded as a result of the Napoleonic Wars in 1806, and it was replaced by the army of the Austrian Empire.
