Redneck Revolt is a far-left American revolutionary group which was formed in Kansas 2009 as a leftist, rural American response to the emergence of the Tea Party movement. Redneck Revolt was formed by members of the existing John Brown Gun Club of Lawrence, Kansas, which operated anti-racist gun stalls at Kansas gun shows. The Redneck Revolt attracted rural, working-class people and adopted the name "redneck" in reference to the striking miners who wore red bandanas as a sign of unity during the Coal Wars of the 1890s to 1930s. The group was influenced by John Brown, the Young Patriots Organization, and the Rainbow Coalition, and it supported gun rights and the rights of LGBT people, Muslims, and immigrants, while arguing that economic injustice and racism should be fought simultaneously. By 2017, Redneck Revolt had 45 chapters across more than 30 states. 33% of its members were people of color, women, or non-binary people as of 2018, and it recruited at country music concerts, flea markets, gun shows, NASCAR events, rodeos, and state fairs, where white supremacist groups also recruited. Chapters provided firearms, first aid training, food and clothing programs, and community gardens, while also engaging in needle exchanges and potlucks.
