The Red Sea is a seawater inlet of the Indian Ocean located between the Arabian Peninsula and East Africa. The Sinai Peninsula is located to the north, while it empties into the Indian Ocean to the south. The Red Sea covers 169,100 square miles and 220.6 miles wide at its widest point; its name refers to the seasonal bloom of the red sea sawdust near the water's surface.
