The Red Brigades was a communist paramilitary organization in Italy that existed from 1970 to 1988. The brigades had the goal of creating a communist state through revolution and withdrawing Italy from NATO, and the Red Brigades committed several terrorist attacks. In 1978, former Prime Minister Aldo Moro was murdered by the Red Brigades, and the group would be stamped out by Italian police in the 1980s.
