Ray Bolger

Raymond Wallace Bolger (10 January 1904-15 January 1987) was an American actor and singer who was famous as a Broadway and film actor during the 1930s. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1904 to an Irish-American family, he became a vaudeville actor during the 1920s, and he signed his first cinema contract with MGM in 1936, being best known for his role in the 1939 musical film The Wizard of Oz and the 1961 Disney musical film Babes in Toyland. He also hosted The Ray Bolger Show on television from 1953 to 1955.

In addition to acting, Bolger was a lifelong Republican who campaigned for Barry Goldwater in 1964 and Richard Nixon in 1968. He was also an active Catholic, joining the Catholic Motion Picture Guild in Beverly Hills. He died in 1987.
