Raoul of Saint Omer

Raoul of Saint Omer (died 1220) was the Jerusalemite Prince of Galilee from 1204 to 1220, succeeding Hugh II of Saint Omer and preceding Odo of Montbeliard.

Biography[]

Raoul of Saint Omer was the son of Walter of Saint Omer and Eschiva of Bures, and his mother later remarried to Raymond III of Tripoli. His brother Hugh II of Saint Omer attempted to secure Raoul's marriage to Queen Isabella I of Jerusalem after the death of Henry II of Champagne, but it failed before the High Court due to Raoul's lack of wealth; King Aimery of Cyprus instead married her. Ralph was banished after challenging the High Court's decision, and he went to Tripoli in 1198 and to Constantinople in 1204. That year, he inherited the Principality of Galilee from his brother, and he died in 1220.
