Ranmaru Mori (1563-1582) was a page of Nobunaga Oda and the third son of Yoshinari Mori. He was also the younger brother of Nagayoshi Mori. Ranmaru fought until his last in the Incident at Honnoji, and he was killed by Mitsuhide Akechi.
Biography[]
The son of loyal Oda general Yoshinari Mori, who died in battle with the Azai and Asakura armies while defending Nobunaga Oda, Ranmaru was trained as a page for Nobunaga Oda as a young boy. He fought through the carnage at the Battle of Anegawa in 1570, the Battle of Nagashino in 1575, and the Second Battle of Kizugawa in 1579. At Tetorigawa he aided Katsuie Shibata and Toshiie Maeda in escaping the Uesugi army, and he also rescued Mitsuhide Akechi from an Uesugi fire attack. The survival of Mitsuhide would result in the death of Ranmaru and Nobunaga.
In June 1582, Mitsuhide Akechi attempted to assassinate Nobunaga Oda in Honnoji for insulting his mother. Ranmaru defended Nobunaga with all of his might, and amidst the burning Honnoji villas of Kyoto, he engaged in battle with droves of Akechi soldiers. He was eventually overrun and killed by Mitsuhide, and his lord was killed soon after.
