Randi Weingarten (18 December 1957-) was an American labor leader, attorney, and educator who served as President of American Federation of Teachers from 2008.
Biography[]
Randi Weingarten was born in New York City, New York in 1957, and she worked as a lawyer for Stroock & Stroock & Lavan from 1983 to 1986. In 1995, she was elected Assistant Secretary of the United Federation of Teachers, and she served as President of the UFT from 1998 to 2008 before becoming President of the American Federation of Teachers in 2008. She and the AFT endorsed Republican George Pataki for Governor in 2002, but she was a lifelong Democrat and a member of the Democratic National Committee. During the 2016 presidential election, she supported Hillary Clinton and desired to "go after" National Nurses United after their endorsement of Donald Trump for President.
