Randalls and Wards Islands

Randalls and Wards Islands are two conjoined islands in the New York City borough of Manhattan, located in the East River. The islands are located in the shadow of the Triborough Bridge, and they have been devoted to industry, public parks, and public works; the island is home to two psychiatric hospitals, a police station, a fire station, a wastewater treatment plant, and some homeless shelters, and it has historically been home to asylums, hospitals, and cemeteries. In 2010, 1,648 people lived on the islands.
